Double Olympic gold medallist Sarah Ayton has announced she is to retire from the sport with immediate effect, therefore ending her quest for an historic third Olympic title at the London 2012 Games, where she was aiming to become the first British woman to win three successive Gold medals at Olympic Games.

For the first time at an Olympics, at London 2012 byes are to be given to the world's top 100 sprinters, meaning the 100m qualified sprinters will run in only three rounds compared to non-qualified sprinters will have to run four. In the 200m a round of competition for all runners has been lost.

Scotland's top female badminton player Susan Egelstaff is gunning for the Team GB female qualification spot at London 2012 by winning her 6th career women's singles title at the Scottish National Championships in Perth. The victory lifts Egelstaff to 31st in the world and makes her the new British Number 1 female.
